Good reasons to go there

The Haute-Savoie, in the heart of the Rhône-Alpes region and close to Switzerland and Italy, boasts extensive natural areas, beautiful lakes and mountains and traditions stemming from the history of this unique area. Every visitor to Haute-Savoie will find tranquillity, fresh air and unforgettable experiences.

A dynamic economy and culture

The local economy benefits from the presence of competitive companies with high added value, such as Danone, Téfal, Maped and Fusalp. The region is also a leader in the field of bar turning, creating a dynamic environment for business.

During your stay, be sure to discover the unique products of this region, which for many years was torn between the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia and France: its fine food, a vast array of cheeses, the wines of Savoie and les Roseaux (chocolate) from Lake Léman are just some of the many flavours for you to experience in the region’s best restaurants.

With modern music, rock, classical music, animated films and Italian films there is a much to enjoy in terms of culture. Festivals are also popular here; from traditional village fêtes to the famous Lake Annecy Fair.

Saint François de Sales, André Dussolier, Marc Veyrat, mountaineer Roger Frison-Roche...these famous names all represent the vitality and attractiveness of the department: so many reasons to come and visit right away!

Haute-Savoie, the grandeur of nature

The region has remarkable landscapes and two famous lakes: Léman, the biggest lake in Europe, and Annecy, the purest. Haute-Savoie is also the home of Europe’s highest peak - Mont Blanc with its 4810.90 metres - and it contains 22,000 hectares of nature parks.

When you think of Haute-Savoie, you automatically think of long, snowy slopes and its 50 traditional ski resorts, with the Portes du Soleil and resorts such as La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, where some of the big names in the field grew up, including Edgar Grospiron and Vincent Vittoz. You can try to emulate them on skis, a snowboard, or any of the latest snow sports equipment.

This is also an ideal summertime destination, where you can relax on the beaches by a lake, take a walk or ride a bike in the Abondance Valley, Les Bauges or Les Aravis.
Famous protected sites such as the ‘Mer de Glace’ and the ‘Cirque du Fer à Cheval’ provide memorable moments to share as a couple or a family.

Breathe in the pure mountain air and benefit from internationally-renowned spa resorts such as Evian-les-Bains.

A few words about Le Chablais

Le Chablais stretches from the lakeshore to the first peaks of the Alps in a vast promontory opposite Europe’s biggest lake. Here, the highland landscape has preserved the charms of such picturesque villages as Saint-Paul-en-Chablais and Novel in accordance with the changing seasons.

Take in the view over the bluish surface of Lake Léman and the tops of the Valais Alps, the Jura and the Mont Blanc Massif: in summertime, from the summit of the Dent d’Oche, which is ibex country, or the Pic des Mémises, marmot country; in the winter, as you slide down the ski slopes of Châtel or the Portes du Soleil resorts.

The Abondance Valley...

An idyllic place in winter or summer: the Abondance Valley, from Geneva to Chamonix, is full of natural and cultural interest. With its white blanket, the Portes du Soleil resort area provides majestic surroundings.
